Our Fundraiser was a Great Success!

Our fundraiser to benefit Hurricane Sandy animal relief efforts was held yesterday at the Brass Monkey Bar on Little West 12th Street in the MPD. Thanks to the generosity of many mechants, restaurants and individuals, we were able to offer a large selection of fantastic silent auction and raffle prizes donated to us to help raise money for the many pets affected by the hurricane. A big thank you must go to the team at the Brass Monkey who provided the space for us to hold the event and then worked hard throughout the evening to keep us all happy with drinks and delicious food for the evening. Thank you also to Dimitri at Beasty Feast for donating the food treats in our take home bags, and to our WVDOG volunteer team who worked so hard on the event. Thank you also to Jane, Natane and other members of our group who solicited many of the great prizes and items for the auction, and a BIG thank you to all of the people who came to support the event and help to make the fundraiser such a success! We were able to raise almost $5,000 to donate to several groups providing support in the tri-state area.

Below is a listing of the many merchants, restaurants and individuals who contributed to making the fundraiser such a success. We ask that you remember them when doing your holiday shopping and making dinner plans, and when you stop by, identify yourself as a WVDOG member (or friend) and thank them for their generosity.

Combined with our recent the food drive, the West Village Dog Owners Group and its members and friends have contributed almost $9,000 to Hurricane Sandy Relief in the past two weeks - thank you to everyone who has helped with our efforts! We will also be continuing to donate by organizing another food and supplies drive after the holidays as relief efforts will be continuing for some time. If you would like to help, please send us an email and we will contact you.

Many thanks to those who participated in our Food Drive.........

On Saturday, November 10th, three SUV's loaded to the brim driven by members of WVDOG (Tracey, Kiersten, Jane, Larry, Trish, Karen and family) headed out to the Rockaways and Brooklyn to deliver donations of both cat and dog kibble, canned food and other much needed supplies to those with pets affected by the Hurricane.

A special thank you must go to Dimitri and his team at Beasty Feast on Hudson Street - they offered to "house" our donations and be a central drop off location for folks to contribute. Dimitri himself donated several hundred dollars worth of food and supplies plus giving a 20% discount for any supplies purchased in his store for the food drive - please remember to thank him when visiting his store.  We also stopped by Downtown Doghouse to collect their donations of bedding, donations from West Village Veterinary Hospital and supplies donated by Stacy at Whose Walking Who.

Our first car headed out to Brooklyn. After emailing Occupy Sandy to find out where supplies were needed they told us of a location in Brooklyn -  Brooklyn Hope Vet. We called them to find out what they needed and they told us of their efforts to help folks in the Red Hook area and in Queens. We dropped off both cat and dog food and supplies for which they were very grateful.

The second two cars drove out to Bell Harbor in the Rockaways and we met Dr Allan Simon and Jay Rogoff - cofounders of the Animal Hospital of the Rockaways. They showed us the damage that was done to their facility and surrounding businesses.  The images in the newspapers and on television do not convey the enormity of the damage and destruction these communities have suffered.

They were so appreciative for the many donations we brought to them. They told us that a lot of residents were coming to their hospital the next day to get food and supplies for their pets as they were the only hospital in that area. The North Shore Animal League were also going to be dropping off much needed pet food and supplies that week.

THANK YOU to all of our WVDOG members, friends and neighbors who contributed to our food drive - we collected close to $4000 worth of food and supplies - a fantastic effort!
