We are a volunteer, not for profit group who started advocating for off leash space for dogs and their owners in 1992.  We opened our first dog run in 1995 on Gansevoort Pier, our second location on 16th Street and then moved to our current location at 55 Little West 12th Street approximately 26 years ago.

For over 30 years, West Village DOG has maintained a membership dog park, due to our having to locate and build our dog parks on vacant, privately owned land.  We have been required to have insurance and to fully indemnify our landlords and being solely responsible for all people and dogs who use our parks.   Our first dog park was built on Gansevoort Peninsula 30 years ago to give people a safe, place to congregate with their pets as there was no park space available in the West Village area.  We were largely responsible for starting the "dog run movement" in the far West Village to create awareness for the needs of dog owners to have designated areas to exercise and enjoy with their pets.  To build our first park, we raised over $40,000 from t-shirt sales and donations to cover our costs.  Our solid reputation for operating and maintaining clean, safe facilities is something we are very proud of.

Come join us! We have a great dog park with 24 hour access (fob entry), lights for nighttime play, doggy pools for the summer, security cameras and rules in place for everyone's safety, shelter for bad weather, and a utility shed filled with playtime and maitenance supplies.  West Village Dog Run is a clean, safe, beloved Non-Profit community where all dogs are vaccinated.

Due to a 300% rent increase by our landlord in February 2023, our membership fee is now $375 per year which works out to roughly $1.00 per day.  Our membership year runs from February 2024 to February 2025.

     STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

This organization was formed in 1992 to address the needs of West Village dog owners, the residents of our neighborhood and our pets.

It is our mission to secure safe, fenced-in areas in our neighborhood where dog owners can congregate and where their dogs can play and exercise off-leash.

We are dedicated to working with community and city officials, veterinary and training professionals and other neighborhood groups to help improve the quality of life for dogs, dog owners and our neighbors.

WVDOG will encourage communications among West Village dog owners, address issues such as sanitation, security, rules and maintenance of approved dog runs and work with local officials to explore possibilities for dog run sites throughout the West Village.
